Requirements to drive in Japan

⚠️ You must present your original passport, a valid driver’s license, and either an International Driving Permit under the 1949 Geneva Convention or an official Japanese translation, depending on the country that issued your license.

Photocopies or digital images are not accepted. Please confirm your exact requirement before booking using the Japan Automobile Federation guidance: JAF — Switch to a Japanese License. We reserve the right to refuse service if documents do not meet legal requirements or cannot be verified.

Pick-up and return are available from 10:00 to 19:00. If you return the car after 19:00, an extra hour fee applies, charged at double the normal extension fee.

“Full to Full” means the car will be given to you with a full tank, and you must return it with a full tank. If the tank is not full upon return, refueling charges will apply.
